Ecological Data Research Assistant - Biology


The successful candidate will work in the Lewis Laboratory of Applied Coastal Ecology (LLACE). Under Dr. Kristy A. Lewis , students will learn to process various ecological data sets using R statistical software, while also learning how to use ArcGIS to plot ecological data in both space and time. Students should be very comfortable working on a computer, using Excel and should be willing and excited to use new software tools to answer pressing coastal ecology questions. Students will also work closely with the LLACE graduate students and will have opportunities to go into the field to learn techniques of collecting coastal ecological data.

Student Responsibilities

1. Work on campus in the LLACE in the Research 1 building (working remotely is feasible given the current limitations to personnel in the lab) 2. Complete assigned data processing assignments within the given deadline 3. Ask a novel question using one of the data sets provided and conduct a direct research project that will culminate in a final oral or poster presentation at the end of the semester. 4. Attend mandatory lab meetings with Dr. Lewis and graduate students

Student Requirements

Comfortable working long hours on a computer. Completed BSC 2010, 2011 Completed STA 2023 or equivalent Works well on a team and with others.
