I seek motivated undergraduates from Life Sciences, Computer Science, or Engineering to participate in my research program on the sensory ecology of gymnotiform electric fishes from South and Central America. I have a number of projects that can potentially lead to authorship on peer-reviewed scientific papers. These include contributions to species descriptions of electric fish from recent expeditions to Brazil and Peru, analyses of electric signal diversity from field recordings, and laboratory-based behavioral experiments on live fish. In addition to experimental and field-based research my lab develops software and hardware for signal acquisition and analysis. Students interested in building equipment or coding software will enjoy some very unusual and interesting opportunities.
