Facial Emotion Recognition - Computer Science

Using machine learning techniques to recognize nonverbal signals such as facial expressions is both useful and challenging. Uses that interest our group include providing reflective feedback to teachers and students; and helping those with challenges in recognizing nonverbal cues to build these skills. The main challenges are a paucity of openly available, annotated images that express a variety of emotions and the confusion that comes when a person’s identity is entangled with their emotional responses. We are looking for students who possess good programming skills and are interested in applying these in the context of human learning.
