Services

The Student Academic Resource Center (SARC) provides academic support services for all UCF students, both face-to-face and online. We offer peer tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, academic coaching, one-on-one learning skills consultations, academic success workshops, a collection of learning skills resources, and additional access to computers in the SARC lab.

Group Peer Tutoring

SARC provides free small group peer tutoring to students enrolled in undergraduate courses associated with the current UCF semester’s schedule. Peer tutoring sessions take place in the SARC Lab located in TCH 117; in the CECS Lab in ENG I room 281; and also at UCF’s Downtown campus in Dr. Phillips Academic Commons Room 330 . Subject areas covered include – Accounting, Statistics, Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, and Human Physiology; as well as Game Level Design, Computer as a Medium, Client-Side Scripting, and Law and The Legal System at Downtown campus . Appointment are necessary and students may leave a tutoring session as needed.

One-on-One Peer Tutoring

SARC now offers individual peer tutoring for students enrolled in undergraduate courses in STEM and Business classes. Individual tutoring sessions are one hour in length and take place exclusively at the SARC Lab in TCH 117. Appointments must be scheduled online in advance. Please note you can only make appointments for classes you are currently enrolled in.

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

Supplemental Instruction (SI) provides a series of weekly study sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. At each SI session, you will be guided through course material by your SI leader, an undergraduate student who has previously taken the course and earned a grade of “A.” SI leaders attend class lectures and provide interactive study groups to help students develop effective ways to learn the course material, helping them succeed on the course and become independent learners.

Academic Coaching & Engagement (ACE) Program

The Academic Coaching and Engagement (ACE) Program facilitates academic success among UCF students by providing one-on-one, ongoing peer coaching. Academic coaches help students develop important academic and life skills such as organization, time management, study skills, and goal setting, which are necessary to ensure satisfactory academic progress. ACE coaches are available to meet with students regularly throughout the semester to provide students the opportunity to check in on their progress, stay accountable for the goals and action plans devised in previous sessions, and become more engaged in campus life and organizations.

Academic Success Workshops

Each semester SARC provides all UCF students an opportunity to continually enhance their learning and study skills through a series of Academic Success Workshops. Topics include test preparation, time management, textbook reading, note-taking, and more. Workshops are also live streamed and recorded via the SARC YouTube channel.

Study Union

*For the Fall 2020 semester, all Study Union sessions will be online through Zoom. The schedule can be found HERE, click the hyperlink in the schedule to be redirected to the Zoom meeting room.

During the fall and spring semesters, SARC tutors and SI Leaders host final review sessions at the Student Union during finals week. Sessions are live streamed and recorded via Panopto, the link to access the videos can be found here (Please note that videos will not appear until after the live-stream has started). Past semesters’ content can be viewed on the SARC YouTube channel or through the previous semesters Panopto folder. Click here for the full schedule, and here for review materials for each session.

Access Program

Every summer, SARC provides guidance and support to a targeted group of UCF freshmen students in the Access Program. Students who are a part of these specialized advising programs benefit from intensive programming and academic support allowing for a successful first year of college.

Programming for this program includes mandatory academic advising requirements, supplemental instruction, goal setting and course monitoring, and access to peer mentors for additional support. The combination of personal contact and appropriate academic referrals provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for academic success in college.
