AAP Student Employment
AAP is searching for students to support the mission and vision of the office and aid UCF students through the Graduate & Professional School Preparation process during the fall, spring, and summer semesters. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of initiatives designed to change campus culture around graduate school preparation and serve the UCF community.
The Opportunity:
The Office of Academic Advancement Programs (AAP) is hiring Peer Mentors to join our team! This position provides specialized support for current undergraduate students wanting to prepare for advanced degree programs (graduate school, health professional schools, or law school) with guidance from a supervisor. This is a student-facing position that requires on campus presence, located on the first floor of Career Services and Experiential Learning (CSEL).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current UCF student.
- Availability between semesters and whenever the University is officially open.
- Ability to work 20 hours per week.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of graduate school, health professional school, and/or law school application process.
- Personal interest in pursuing an advanced degree at graduate or professional school level.
- 25 overall GPA or higher.
Responsibilities:
- Career and Self Development: Meet with students to discuss their goals beyond an undergraduate degree and make recommendations on action steps to result in being a competitive applicant for advanced degree programs; Meet with supervisor regularly throughout the semester for professional development sessions.
- Leadership: Guide students in completing tasks on AAP’s Action Plan and Roadmap; Provide constructive feedback to students.
- Technology: Maintain records of all student interactions and meetings through system database, myKnightSTAR.
- Critical Thinking: Exhibit vast knowledge of institutional resources to refer students to other campus professionals when necessary (e.g. Student Academic Resource Center, Personal Counseling, Financial Aid, etc.).
- Communication: Encourage students to attend AAP-hosted events; Assist during workshops and events as needed.
- Professionalism: Demonstrate professional and friendly attitude to all students, staff, faculty, and stakeholders.
- Equity and Inclusion: Ensure all students feel welcome and supported. Provide guidance based on individual student needs.
