UCF offices, including the University Testing Center, will be closed from December 19, 2024, through January 1, 2025. Normal operations will resume on January 2, 2025. For detailed information about our policies, procedures, and services, please navigate this site using the main menu.
Notice: This exam is currently proctored in person at the University Testing Center.
You are allowed 2.5 hours to complete the multiple-choice test. Although each exam is unique in its content, most tests have a listening, reading, and grammar component. Most exams are computerized with a few that are paper/pencil versions. See the list of those exams below.
There are no test preparation materials available. The most successful way to prepare for any given test is to review your reading ability. It is also helpful if you have a friend to practice both listening and speaking of the language.
The following languages listed below are only offered in paper/pencil version: You will need to call BYU to order written exams (801) 422-3512. Allow 2 weeks for BYU to mail your paper exams to the University Testing Center.
The office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) works in collaboration with the University Testing Center (UTC) to ensure that reasonable accommodations are made for test takers with documented disabilities. Test takers with disabilities seeking alternative testing arrangements (e.g. extended time, etc.) must request approval from SAS (407-823-2371 or sas@ucf.edu). Note: test takers should allow at least two (2) weeks for SAS and UTC to process the accommodation requests once the formal request has been submitted to SAS.
You can find more details and the request form at: https://sas.sdes.ucf.edu/students/ucf-placement-tests-and-university-testing-center-accommodations/
Once UTC receives notification from the SAS office of a test-taker’s testing accommodations, a UTC staff member will create a registration account for the student and email instructions to register. Test takers should NOT COMPLETE STEP 2 OF THE REGISTRATION for a testing appointment until they receive these instructions from UTC.
There are two separate registrations and payments required per test:
Please note: Do not select Autofill Proctor360 as My Proctor on the registration page of the BYU website.
Rescheduling an Appointment
Appointments may be rescheduled up to 7 days prior to your scheduled date/time at no cost by following the instructions below. Missed appointments will require full repayment of the test cost; this includes if you cancel or arrive more than 15-minutes late.
How to Reschedule Your Exam
The University Testing Center will administer the test, and BYU will receive the completed online test electronically. If the exam is done on paper, UTC will send BYU the completed exam materials by certified mail. The University Testing Center does not interpret scores or results.
UCF Students: There are no credit hours awarded at UCF for this exam; Students can earn up to 2 semesters equivalency at a college level. For UCF students, passing the FLATS satisfies the 2-semester Foreign Language Requirement for graduation and/or the UCF foreign language admissions requirement.
Exams can be retaken every six months.
