The Educational Testing Service (ETS) Field Test in Biology is utilized as the exit exam for the UCF Biology Department.
Undergraduate students at UCF who are majoring in Biology are encouraged to take the Biology Exit Exam after completion of the core courses or during the semester the last core courses are in progress. This test is graded as pass/fail with a passing grade being greater than the national bottom 10th percentile. A failing grade will require a retake before graduation. This is a state-mandated exam for all graduating seniors in Biology.
The ETS Major Field Test in Biology is computerized and consists of approximately 150 multiple-choice questions. Test-takers will have two (2) hours to complete the test.
The exam will cover the following core courses: Biology I, Biology II, Genetics, Ecology, Molecular Cell Biology, and Evolutionary Biology.
The office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) works in collaboration with the University Testing Center (UTC) to ensure that reasonable accommodations are made for students with documented disabilities. Students with disabilities seeking accommodations for placement tests must have approval from the SAS office (407-823-2371 or sas@ucf.edu). Note: test takers should allow at least two (2) weeks for SAS and UTC to process the accommodation request once the formal request has been submitted to SAS.

Once UTC receives notification from the SAS office of a test-taker’s testing accommodations, a UTC staff member will create a registration account for the student and email them instructions to register. Students should NOT REGISTER for a testing appointment until they receive these instructions from UTC.
The cost for the Biology Exit Exam is $75.00, effective January 1, 2025. All costs paid to the University Testing Center are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Test takers must review the University Testing Center’s policies prior to test day. Items such as outwear (hoodies, sweaters, jackets, pullovers, cardigans, any form of second layer clothing), watches, and electronic devices are not permitted into the test room. All appointments must be booked a minimum of 24 hours prior to the desired date/time. To schedule an appointment, navigate to RegisterBlast.
After completing the registration process, the test registration confirmation will be emailed. If a confirmation email is not received, test-takers must contact UTC during normal business hours to check appointment status.
Rescheduling an Appointment
Test takers may reschedule their appointments at no cost up to 7 days prior to the scheduled test date/time by following the instructions below. To reschedule within 7 days, test-takers would need to email a cancellation notice to UTC and schedule a new appointment, including full repayment of the test cost. Missed appointments will require full repayment of the test cost, this includes cancelation or arrivals more than 15-minutes late.
How to Reschedule
If a student fails to achieve a score that is equal to or above the bottom 10th percentile in their first attempt, they may retake the test after 60 days. To request a retake, email utc@ucf.edu and staff will authorize you to register for a retake exam after verifying the 60-day waiting period. Students are only allowed to take the test two times within one semester. UCF students can have a maximum of three (3) total attempts. Students that fail all 3 attempts will have to meet with Biology Department leadership to come up with a plan to determine how they can demonstrate proficiency in biology.
Unofficial results show immediately on screen at the end of the exam. Official results from the ETS Major Field Test in Biology will be provided to the Biology Department. No printed score reports are available.
