If you passed the Civic Literacy exam in high school, it satisfies the exam requirement. If your degree audit shows “Not Satisfied” despite passing the exam, request an update by submitting a ticket through the UCFIT Service Now portal at ucf.service-now.com/ucfit. Select “Request a Service” and use the search bar to locate the Civic Literacy request form.
Note: This exam only satisfies the exam requirement and does not fulfill the Civic Literacy course requirement.
Note: The non-credit course does not fulfill a General Education Program (GEP) requirement and is not equivalent to POS2041 or AMH2020.
Students may take the CLEP exam for American Government to satisfy both the course requirement (earn course credit for POS 2041) and the assessment requirement.
The FCLE is available to take in-person on the UCF main campus for UCF students, and appointments are required. The test is available year-round with the exception of a 7-10 day maintenance period that usually occurs in late July/early August.
The FCLE is computerized and consists of 80 multiple-choice questions. Test-takers will have approximately two (2) hours to complete the test.
The exam will assess competency in four (4) areas:
Additional resources are available via the FLDOE Civic Literacy webpage.
The office of Student Accessibility Services (SAS) works in collaboration with the University Testing Center (UTC) to ensure that reasonable accommodations are made for test takers with documented disabilities. Test takers with disabilities seeking alternative testing arrangements (e.g. extended time, etc.) must request approval from SAS (407-823-2371 or sas@ucf.edu). Note: test takers should allow at least two (2) weeks for SAS and UTC to process the accommodation requests once the formal request has been submitted to SAS.
You can find more details and the request form at: https://sas.sdes.ucf.edu/students/ucf-placement-tests-and-university-testing-center-accommodations/ Once UTC receives notification from the SAS office of a test-taker’s testing accommodations, a UTC staff member will create a registration account for the student and email them instructions to register. Test takers should NOT REGISTER for a testing appointment until they receive these instructions from UTC.
Test takers must review the University Testing Center’s policies prior to test day. Items such as outwear (hoodies, sweaters, jackets, pullovers, cardigans, any form of second layer clothing), watches, and electronic devices are not permitted into the test room. UTC does offer lockers at no additional cost. The full list of UTC policies can be found here.
To schedule an appointment, navigate to RegisterBlast.
After completing the registration process, the test registration confirmation will be emailed. If a confirmation email is not received, test-takers must contact UTC during normal business hours to check appointment status.
Rescheduling an Appointment
Test takers may reschedule their appointments at no cost up to 7 days prior to the scheduled test date/time by following the instructions below. To reschedule within 7 days, test-takers would need to email a cancellation notice to UTC and schedule a new appointment, including full repayment of the test cost. Missed appointments will require full repayment of the test cost, this includes cancelation or arrivals more than 15-minutes late.
How to Reschedule
The UCF retake policy for the FCLE is that test-takers can retake the exam after 30 days, with possible exceptions made on a case-by-case basis. There is currently no limit on the number of retakes a student may attempt.
A pass/fail status will be immediately available at the completion of the exam. Official scores may take a few weeks to appear on the degree audit.
