PHPL Advisors are currently available in-person and virtually for drop-in advising. Please read below for more information on the variety of advising services our staff provides.

Spring 2023 IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Starting this Spring 2023, we are opening advising appointments for only 2-weeks at a time. We will open the advising appointments every other Friday (ex. Mar. 31, April 14, April 28, May 12, May 26, etc.) on a first-come, first-served basis for appointments for the following two weeks. We plan to do this so that our appointments do not book up multiple weeks in advance like they have in the past. Once we are booked for the two-week period, we will re-open appointments for the next two weeks every other Friday beginning at 8:30am. Please call our office (407-823-0101) or stop by to schedule an advising appointment.

We advise the following students in ANY MAJOR:

  • Pre-Medical
  • Pre-Dental
  • Pre-Pharmacy
  • Pre-Veterinary
  • Pre-Optometry
  • Pre-Podiatry
  • Pre-Chiropractic
  • Pre-Physician Assistant
  • Pre-Physical Therapy
  • Pre-Occupational Therapy
  • Pre-Public Health
  • Pre-Law

*We do not advise students interested in graduate programs in Nursing, Athletic Training, Nutrition, and Anesthesiologist Assistant.

NOTE: For course selections, PHPL Advisors will advise students with course schedule planning their prerequisite courses ONLY for health professional schools, BUT students should receive advice from the advisors in their major, department, or college if they want to plan their entire course schedule and to ensure they are on track for course requirements for graduation.

Pre-Health Mentor:

Pre-Health mentorship offers an opportunity to seek one-on-one mentorship from an experienced pre-health peer. The mentorship sessions are designed to be strategic, personal, goal-oriented, and geared toward any aspect of health professional school preparation (extracurricular planning, application, gap year options, letters of recommendation, etc.). Walk-ins and experience reviews with written feedback as well as an optional follow-up meeting are also available. (NOTE: The Pre-Health Mentoring sessions are not academic advising/course planning sessions, but our Pre-Health mentor has extensive training and can provide guidance based on personal experiences and knowledge of Pre-Health resources).

Activities / Experience Reviews

Kylie is currently accepting submissions for experience reviews. This form of feedback is designed for (a) students applying this coming cycle who want assistance crafting the experience section of their application and (b) students who are not applying this cycle but have begun participating in extra-curricular activities and want to familiarize themselves with the experience section of the application, assess current progress, and determine areas in need of improvement. In order to initiate this process, email kylie.mccarty@ucf.edu and include your pre-professional track and anticipated application cycle. Kylie will get back to you within 48 hours with instructions for submission and timeline for feedback. There is a potential for an option to schedule a zoom meeting if needed. Please note Kylie can only accept and complete a certain number of submissions per week and she will communicate to you the soonest she can address your submission.

The mentorship sessions are led by Kylie McCarty who is a second-year Doctor of Physical Therapy student at UCF. Read more about Kylie here.

Appointment Policies

Advising appointments in the Pre-Health and Pre-Law Advising office are in very high demand and the number of students seeking appointments continues to increase. As a result, the following necessary policies are implemented to assure maximum efficiency in the delivery of the PHPL Advising office’s services.

Self-Assessment for First Time Appointments:

When scheduling a first appointment in our office, Pre-Health students are required to fill out and submit a self-assessment in webcourses at least 24 hours before their first appointment with our office. If students do not submit a complete self-assessment in webcourses prior to the first appointment, their appointment will need to be rescheduled or canceled. See policies below about rescheduled or canceled appointments for additional information.

Rescheduled Appointments:

Students are permitted to reschedule only one appointment during each semester. On the second attempt to reschedule, students then will be limited to meeting with the PHPL advisors during walk-in/drop-in hours ONLY for the remainder of the semester.

Canceled Appointments:

Students are permitted only one canceled appointment during each semester. On the second attempt to cancel, students then will be limited to meeting with the PHPL advisors during walk-in/drop-in hours ONLY for the remainder of the semester.

Missed (No-Show) Appointments:

Students who do not attend a regularly scheduled appointment and do not call in advance to reschedule or cancel then will be limited to meeting with the PHPL advisors during drop-in/walk-in hours ONLY for the remainder of the semester.

Our advisors appreciate the understanding of our Pre-Health and Pre-Law students to observe the aforementioned policies so that the maximum number of students can be served each semester.
