Over the summer, the Knights Major Exploration and Transition Center (KMETC) hired and trained 10 undergraduate peer coaches to work with undeclared students.  During the selection process, many shared their personal major exploration journey, indicating they wished an office like KMETC existed at the start of their college career.

The KMETC peer coaches work closely with the Academic Advisors and are often the first contact with KMETC before meeting with their assigned academic advisor.  The initial meeting with the peer coach provides the exploring student with what to expect during their major exploration process and to assure the exploring student that a majority of college students experience this during their undergraduate experience.

The peer coach’s perspective can be a calming element during this time of uncertainty.  Since the start of the fall semester, our exploring students have shared that this initial encounter with our office has prepared them for the expectations of the program and normalizing the exploration process.
