Below are resources to learn more about navigating NACADA nominations, tips for writing letters of support, and writing your advising philosophy to clearly articulate your values and purpose.

A previous UCF Award Winner (see below) in your area might be a great additional resource for tips on creating a winning nomination.

Pegasus Advisor Award

UCF sponsors the Pegasus Advisor award to recognize the outstanding efforts that UCF’s professional academic advisors (out-of-unit) play in retaining students, providing accurate and timely information to students, creating a caring and supportive environment, and helping students realize their potential. One (1) award is available annually. Colleges, regional campuses, institutes, centers, and the Division of Student Development and Enrollment Services may each nominate up to two (2) out-of-unit professional academic advisors for this award.

UCF Awards

The UCF Academic Advising Council sponsors three academic advising awards.

  • Judy Boyte Innovative Academic Advising Award
  • Dr. Judith Sindlinger Outstanding New Advisor Award
  • Dr. Terry Hickey Academic Advising Advocate Award

Judy Boyte Innovative Academic Advising Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate outstanding innovation in academic advising at UCF. This award is named in honor of Judy Boyte, the first professional academic advisor at UCF. Boyte established the first academic advising office, established advising policies, and developed academic standards for the position of academic advisor that grew to the recognition and professional status academic advisors now have at UCF. Through her innovation in academic advising, the university recognized the need to provide dedicated professionals to serve student advising needs.

Dr. Judith Sindlinger Outstanding New Advisor Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate outstanding new advisors at UCF. This award is named in honor of Dr. Judith Sindlinger, the first chair of the Academic Advising Council at UCF, who served as an academic advisor and administrator at UCF for 20 years. Dr. Sindlinger was a winner of the NACADA Academic Advising Administrator Award in 2006 in recognition of her service and contributions to advising at UCF. As a result of her devotion to the promotion of professional academic advising, Dr. Sindlinger was instrumental in developing the Academic Advising Council and Advisor Enhancement Program at UCF as well as creating career levels for academic advising positions.

Dr. Terry Hickey Academic Advising Advocate Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize, appreciate, and celebrate non-advisors who support advising at UCF. This award is named in honor of Dr. Terry Hickey, former UCF Provost, who was a great supporter of academic advising at the University of Central Florida. Dr. Hickey provided outstanding leadership in supporting academic advising by establishing additional advising positions to enhance the academic advising profession at UCF. Because of Dr. Hickey’s dedication to the profession of advising, the Academic Advising Council would like to present an award to a non-advisor who recognizes the need, and is a supporter of, professional academic advising at the University of Central Florida.
