In this position you will use open access satellite imagery, using ArcGIS online or Google Earth to map pre-Columbian earthworks in the Bolivian Amazon. Results are to be entered into our online GIS database of landscape features. This project documents the domestication of the landscape in the Amazon, over thousands of years.

Student Requirements
Attention to detail, basic computer skills, access to a computer and the internet, either at home or on campus. Coursework in anthropology, computer science, image processing, graphic design, GIS, ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, or database design, is helpful but not required. Open to all majors.

The larger project has been at work at UCF since 2006, resulting in several HIM thesis projects, MA and MS thesis projects. Project participants have gone on to work in many fields, including PhD programs in Anthropology.
