Position Description.
Undergraduate research student will help perform basic wet chemistry analysis working with doctoral/master’s graduate research assistant. Tasks may include but not be limited to the following:
*glassware cleaning, preparation, furnace bottle ashing, cooling and storage
*pH, temperature and conductivity analysis
*total and suspended solids analysis
*prepare water samples for analysis by filtering or pH adjustment
*data acquisition and processing using excel spreadsheets
*perform literature searches,
*general support of research efforts by graduate students.
Project Description.
Projects include the study of drinking and reclaimed water quality, treatment, and distribution systems. Research focuses on water quality engineering impacts, and include unit operations treatment using advanced processes such as granular activated carbon, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration and membrane filtration, process performance and mass transfer investigations, distribution system water quality, disinfection and corrosion control.

Student Requirements
Students will be required to attend and complete UCF's laboratory safety classes prior to gaining entrance to the laboratories. UCF's safety classes are offered by UCF Environmental Health and Safety intermittently throughout the year (see https://ehs.ucf.edu/). Students having completed coursework in basic chemistry and calculus with a minimum of "B". Engineering students that have completed Environmental Engineering (ENV3001) and/or chemistry students who have completed Analytical Chemistry (CHM 3120) with a minimum of a "B" grade. Knowledge of word, excel, statistical and data analysis software is a plus.
