Astronomy data analyst - Physics


General position in working on existing telescope data. Could involve converting raw data to science-quality data, or on analyzing data that are already science-quality. Data are imaging or spectroscopy of comets and/or asteroids, or science products in text or imaging databases. All projects have an overarching science goal of understanding the physical, compositional, and surficial properties of Solar System bodies. There are a few projects available, and we’re willing to tune a project to fit the skillset of the applicant. Time commitment (average hours per week) can be adjusted to fit the applicant’s academic schedule.

Student Requirements

Hardware: Access to their own laptop computer. Previous experience: Some programming ability would be very useful. But if not, then some spreadsheeting ability could suffice. Coursework: Highly desirable are AST 2002, and either PHY 2048 or PHY 2053.
