Optics and Electronics Research: Infrared Imaging - Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL)

Support the development of vehicle or drone-mounted imaging systems. Track platform motion using GPS or inertial sensors and control a gimbal to keep the camera pointed in a desired direction. Record and analyze imagery to evaluate automated detection and tracking algorithms.

Student Responsibilities

Work with a small team of grad students and undergrads. Learn how to control cameras from a computer and do some basic image processing. Learn how to interface with and control other instruments from a computer to build a robust data collection system.

Student Requirements

Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Some engineering/physical science coursework completed and some experience with matlab or other resource for doing calculations or coding. Willingness to learn new skills and a passion for technology is more important than experience. Priority to students looking to engage in research for 1 year or longer. Priority to students that can commit closer to full-time hours during summer 2021.
