Volunteer Undergraduate Research: sensor/ polymers - Materials Science and Engineering

Undergraduate researchers will learn how to conduct polymerizations to yield various polymeric materials which can be functionalized for use at the human interface toward wellness monitoring and wearable devices. Other project areas could include development of chemical sensors.

Type of Project

Individual

Student Responsibilities

Solvent purification, organic and inorganic transformations, polymer synthesis, and instrumentation such as electrochemistry, atomic force microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and dynamic mechanical analysis.

Time Commitment

10 hrs/wk hour(s)

Student Requirements

Self motivated freshman-Junior level undergraduates that enjoy troubleshooting research challenges are encouraged to apply.

Interested in Working With the Following Programs

For EXCEL URE Students Only

Additional Notes

Due to the nature of the experiments, a time commitment of at least 10hr/wk are required (there is downtime during reactions for students to work on homework; example student might be around the lab for 5hr on a given day, with hour 1 for reaction set-up, then hours 2-4 (while reaction runs) student does homework etc., then hour 5 the student stops and processes the reaction).
